Our Step-by-Step Customization Process
Everything we do is customized to fit YOUR needs. Our Team is here to walk you through each part of the design process. After all, you're not just purchasing a piece of furniture; this is an heirloom to be enjoyed by generations to come.
1. Select Your Amish Furniture Style
What speaks to your style? Our Amish builders can create a style that blends seamlessly into your lifestyle. We have you covered from Mission, Arts & Crafts, Shaker, Traditional, Transitional and even Versatile.
2. Select Your Hardwood
When customers come into the store we often hear, "It smells good in here!" That's the smell of real wood! All of our furniture is built from solid milled North American hardwoods. Select from our six hardwoods – red oak, quarter-sawn white oak, cherry, maple, hickory or walnut. We only use slow-growth hardwoods from forests that are responsibly managed for this purpose. The wood is cut, kiln-dried to prevent splitting and then sent to the builder's workshop to begin its transformation. Amish builders are true craftsmen and pride themselves on using traditional woodworking techniques such as mortise and tenon, dovetail and tongue and groove joinery.
3. Select Your Stain Colors
We have many stains (more than 20!) available for each of the woods. Our stain selection ranges from lighter natural colors to darker tones like java. All wood stain selections are visible in our showroom.
Also, our stains are made using certified formulas. This means the stain colors are certified every year for color consistency and accuracy. While there can be variations in the wood, the stains are consistent.
All of our Amish furniture is finished by one Amish finish shop with a catalyzed varnish to keep each piece looking like new for years to come. This is the best available finish for wood furniture. Our finish has been extensively tested and has proven resistant to most household spills.
4. Finishing Touches
Simply put, we have lots and lots of fabric (books and books of fabric and leather samples) and hardware options. Many examples of both are here in the store.
If you are working on a special project that requires a certain fabric or hardware, never fear, you are welcome to provide your own material for upholstery. Same goes for hardware. We'll make sure your picks for hardware and fabric get to the builder safe and sound, and we'll return what isn't used back to you.
5. Final Step
Last step, we finalize your order and send it to the builder who begins construction. Then, it's just a matter of time before you receive your custom made Amish furniture. This is the hard part…waiting.
Our lead time for your custom built furniture is approximately 12 weeks. We know that you are anxious to start enjoying your new Amish furniture and we make every effort to get your furniture to you as soon as possible. However, quality does take some time. Your hand-crafted furniture is not built until you place your order. Each piece is built for you and built to last.
The Amish Craftsman is dedicated to providing an exceptional customer experience. Our philosophy is simple: We would never deliver a piece of furniture to a customer that we wouldn't want in our own home.
